Organizations
California Native Plant Society (CNPS)
Dedicated to the preservation of California native plants by fighting to preserve wild spaces, qualifying plants to be added to the endangered species list, and so forth. The Santa Monica Mountains chapter has monthly meetings, in addition to a fall plant sale (usually in mid-October) and a spring wildflower show. The San Gabriel Mountains chapter is also very active with regular meetings and plant sales.
Audubon Society
The nationwide organization dedicated to birds. See also: San Fernando Valley chapter.
North America Butterfly Association (NABA)
The nationwide organization dedicated to butterflies.
California Garden Clubs, Inc.
California Garden Clubs is a statewide organization of garden clubs and plant societies who work together to create, promote and further interest in horticulture, gardening, floral and landscape design, plant and bird life, and appreciation of the natural beauties of the State of California. CGCI has divided the state into 28 districts in which clubs work together locally for their mutual benefit.
National Wildlife Federation (NWF)
In addition to being a great environmental organization, the NWF has a Backyard Wildlife Habitat program that help show you how to wildscape your garden, offering certificates as proof of your wildlife-friendliness (we're registered habitat #46988).
